1 Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how ZooVo ("ZooVo", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects personal data when you use the ZooVo mobile application, websites, and related services (the "Service"). For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"), ZooVo is the Data Fiduciary and the parent/guardian account holder is the Data Principal.
This policy forms part of, and should be read with, our Terms & Conditions.
2 Our core stance
- The account belongs to the parent. ZooVo is a parental-control tool used by adults; children do not create accounts or log in.
- We do not collect personal information from children. We do not ask for or store a child's name, age, photo, contacts, or precise location, and we do not build a profile of any child.
- No advertising or behavioural targeting of children. We do not run third-party ads inside ZooVo and never use activity data to target a child.
3 What we collect
We collect only what we need to provide the Service, all tied to the parent account:
| Category | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account data | Email address, and a hashed password or auth identifier. | To create and secure your account and sign you in. |
| Subscription data | Plan, status, and transaction identifiers from the app store / billing provider. We do not see or store your full card details. | To manage Premium access and renewals. |
| Your content | The playlists you build and the public video links you add. | To show you and your child only the videos you chose. |
| Usage & activity | Which of your own playlists/videos were played and for how long — shown back to you as your parent reports. | To power screen-time and weekly activity features. Tied to the parent, not a child identity. |
| Device & technical | App version, device/OS type, language, and basic diagnostics or crash logs. | To keep the app working and fix problems. |
| Waitlist | Email you submit on our website, plus the page/referrer. | To tell you when ZooVo is available. |
Your parent PIN is stored only as a secure hash on your device; we do not receive your PIN.
4 What we don't collect
- Personal information about children (names, ages, photos, voices, contacts).
- Per-child behavioural profiles or identities used for advertising.
- Precise geolocation.
- Full payment card numbers (handled by the app store / payment processor).
5 How we use data
We use personal data to:
- provide, maintain, and secure the Service and your account;
- operate parental-control features (playlists, profiles, screen-time limits, your activity reports);
- process subscriptions and prevent fraud or abuse (including reCAPTCHA checks on form submissions);
- respond to your support requests and send essential service messages;
- understand aggregate, non-identifying usage to improve the app;
- comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to advertise to your child.
6 Third-party video data
Videos play through the official YouTube and Instagram embedded players. To re-display a video you added, we store its public video identifier/link. We keep other third-party metadata (such as titles or thumbnails) only as long as needed to show your playlist, and we refresh or delete that metadata on a rolling basis (about every 30 days). We do not download, re-host, or alter third-party videos. When a video plays, the relevant platform may set its own cookies and process data under its privacy policy.
7 Legal basis & consent
Depending on your region, we rely on one or more of: your consent (which you may withdraw), the performance of our contract with you (the Terms), our legitimate interests in running and securing the Service, and legal obligations. Under the DPDP Act, the parent is the Data Principal and provides consent on the family's behalf.
9 Cookies & analytics
Our website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality and for aggregate analytics (Google Analytics) and bot protection (reCAPTCHA). These are tied to visitors of our site, not to children. Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies; you can also control cookies through your browser settings.
10 Data retention
We keep account and subscription data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service or meet legal/accounting obligations. Diagnostic logs are kept for a limited period. Third-party video metadata is refreshed or purged on a rolling cycle (about 30 days). When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it by law.
11 Security
We use industry-standard measures — encryption in transit, access controls, and hashing of credentials and PINs — to protect personal data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires.
12 Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, update, or delete your personal data, to withdraw consent, to port your data, and to complain to a data protection authority. Under the DPDP Act you may also nominate another person to exercise your rights. To make a request, contact us at privacy@zoovo.app; we may need to verify your identity first.
13 Children's privacy
ZooVo is designed to be used by parents with their children, and is not directed at children for the purpose of collecting their data. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. This stance is intended to align with the DPDP Act (India), the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA", US, under 13), and the GDPR-K / UK Children's Code (EU/UK) where those apply. If you believe a child's personal data has reached us, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
14 International users & transfers
ZooVo is operated from India and offered India-first. If you use the Service from another country, your data may be processed in India or in countries where our processors operate. We take steps to ensure such transfers have appropriate safeguards as required by law.
15 Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, in the app or by email) and update the "last updated" date above. Your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
